General Service Technician
This course provides basic operational theory and prepares a student to perform general repair, maintenance, and testing of basic automotive components and systems. Course completion will prepare students to work as entry level technicians for dealerships and alternative repair and lubrication facilities.
It will take 6 consecutive semesters (24 months) to learn the basics and become ready to enter the job market in this position.
ASE Certificate Preparation
This path will engage students deeper into automotive design and theory and will prepare them to obtain an ASE G1 certificate test usually required for work as an entry level technician or mechanic.
It will take between 6 months and 2 years depending on your level of experience. The ASE organization requires 2 years of hands-on shop experience to qualify for receipt of the ASE G1 certificate once the test is passed. Prior documented shop or related work experience can count toward this requirement.
What is ASE?
It is an organization dedicated to the promotion and maintenance of Automotive Service Excellence.
ASE certificates are usually preferred by most employers when considering new general service technicians or mechanics for hire.

There is a $200 fee for the course covering books, meals, equipment, and other expenses. Payments can be arranged, and scholarships are available. $25 is refundable if the book is returned in good (unmarked) condition.
There is a $150 fee for auditing since there is not book assigned.
This not an accredited program designed to qualify for course credit at a college or university. The hours spent at the shop will count towards ASE certification requirements, but you must document that time for your use.
If a career in the automotive business is not your goal but you are interested in learning about auto maintenance, you can audit the course and not have to go through the actual course work and test, or just come try it out!
